Agenda:

1) Securing future speakers

2) Club equipment upgrades/maintenance

1) Securing future speakers. President Mike Lockwood started the
discussion by asking if anyone had ideas and or possible speakers for
upcoming CUAS club meetings. Several members present responded:

Phil Wall could do a program on the sundial. He also mentioned programs
on astronomy fundamentals.

Mike Conron could put together a program on recent star parties.

Guy Hampel suggested that a good source for ideas are the astronomy
magazines

Dave Leake will put something together for this Thursday (8-9)

Stewart Levy could do a program possibly.

John Stone mentioned Rolland Christen of Astro Physics and Denis Persek
and Bruce Karbal, a Chicago astrophoto amateur.

Mike Lockwood can get Ed Ting to speak.

From this discussion it looks like:

August meeting speaker: Dave Leake

September meeting speaker..we may actually cancel this meeting due to
members' absences due to star parties, etc.

October meeting speaker.. From Guy.."fill in subject?" (Not sure about
this. MC)

Other things that could be done at the club meetings include an idea
from Phil of having guides for object to view and goals of observing
objects with the club scopes.

2) Club equipment upgrade/maintenance

Mike Lockwood presented the idea of re-doing the Right Ascension axis
on the 16 inch Cass at the dome and placing a working drive on it.
It will cost something but will be worth it since the scope will become
much more useable for the members at large. Virtually everyone agreed
it is a good idea.

John Stone indicated that at least one of the Dobs is spongy and moist.
We also need to check out the 16 inch Dob and other scopes in preparation
for the Middlefork view on August 11th.

There being no further business to be brought before the officers,
the meeting was adjourned at 7:30PM

Michael T. Conron, Secretary
