CUAS Meeting Jan 11, 2001, P. Wall, secretary

17 people attending, at least one of whom was a nonmember

Big news, WICD in before meeting to interview Bob Holmes, who discovered
two supernovae in past month. Bob discussed how he discovered them, "I
was in the right place at the right time." He used a 16" Meade LX 200 with
a CCD camera, the computer program The Sky plus a camera control script.
He then passed pictures areound.

Geoff read upcoming events.

Upcoming astrophotography meeting discussed.

Shirts and hats discussed, and whether or not to preorder (take orders
from those desiring items before ordering).

Bob Tolson, who helped CUAS get the observatory, is retiring. Dave Leake
mentioned his retirment reception and a Thank You note for club members
to sign.

Dave also mentioned that the tax-exempt status application has been refused
by the state, but one of the reason given is very strange, which may be
due to a mess-up.

The Park District made some skywatch fliers for members to take and put up
around town.

Mike Rosenberg, Observatory Directory, brought in a wedge for the new pier.
Ways to protect wedge from theft or destruction and ways to keep it
polar-aligned were discussed. Mike said wedge should be out this weekend.

Bob Robedunst, working on dome scope drive, says its too cold to work on
it but he'll start again when it warms up.

Then Dave conducted the club's annual sky preview,

Afterwards, revival of the constellation of the month was discussed. Dave
says he'll do one for the February meeting.

Possibiility of a Messier hunt in March was discussed. The idea is that
members, at the March members-only skywatch, would compete to see who
could find the most objects that night, possibly done as teams.
