CUAS Meeting, 7PM August 8th, 2001, Staerkel Planetarium Members attending: 18 M.C.'d by Geoff Burch, President Special Guest: Dr. Jim Kaler, astronomer at UIUC - Geoff started the meeting by reading announcements - Saturday Aug 10th members will go out to the dome for the Perseid meteor shower. - Saturday Aug 18th will be a work day at the CUAS dome. Volunteers needed. Later that night will be members only skywatch. - Sept. 1st will be Weekend Wizards at the Orpheum Children's Museum, featuring astronomy and activities for families. Volunteers needed. - Sept. 6th: free preview of Night Lights planetarium show, to be preceded by Dave doing a presentation on light pollution. Show by Waylena. Officials from Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, and UIUC will be invited RSVP, plus club members encouraged to attend. - Sept. 17th: Bob O'dell will give a talk on using the Hubble Space Telescope to image the Orion Nebula and the Helix Nebula. This event is free, sponsored by CUAS. - Aug. 25th: family skywatch. - T shirts with the club logo and Astronomy 2002 calendars still available. - Astro 101 and Constellation of the Month were skipped to allow more time for Jim Kaler's talk. - Dr. Kaler gave a talk on the formation and life cycle of stars.
