Minutes of the August 2002 Meeting of the CUAS. August 8, 2002 The Meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Vice-President Phil Wall. There were 14 members present. V.P. Wall reviewed the upcoming Club events. This Saturday is the monthly Members-Only night weather permitting. Viewing for the Perseids also this weekend. Prime time is Sunday and Monday nights. Saturday the 17th is the next Family Skywatch. All members are encouraged to come out. Mike Conron reports that progress on the 16" truss scope has been slow. It has just been too hot to work in the garage. Treasurer Dave Leake reports a balance of $2,318. The updated Observatory Manual is complete. All keyholders should have a copy. Contact one of the Officers to get your copy. We may post it on the CUAS website. The Club will be doing observing at Allerton Park on Sept. 28, and Nov. 2. We will present a short program and setup an observing session to introduce newcomers to Astronomy. Further details will be posted. Dave Leake then gave us a short presentation on the locations of the 2 comets that are coming into our view. And, then showed some pictures of his recent family vacation to the SW U.S. Finally, a general Club discussion of light pollution in the C-U area. Mike Matthews reports that Mahomet now has an Ordinance dealing with lighting. The general consensus of the Club was that we should start exploring various ways that we may promote a better awareness of our concerns to the various towns/cities and residents on our area.
