Minutes of the June 12, 2003 Meeting of the CUAS.

The Meeting was called to order by 5th Director Mike Matthews at 7:05 P.M.
There were about 36 Members and visitors present.

We first viewed a most interesting presentation of "The Art of Simon Fischer"
by U of I Art student, Carl Burton. Everyone enjoyed the presentation,
and we thank Carl. We had quite a number of visitors who came to see the video.

5th Director Matthews then called the business meeting to order.

a). The Club will have it's booth at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana June 20
through 22. We will be setting up the booth on Saturday the 21st from 9 AM
until at least 6 PM. And, on Sunday from Noon until 5 PM. Several have signed
up to do booth duty, but we can really use more help. If you can spare some
time to come out and help promote the Club and Astronomy we can use your
help. Please contact either Dave Leake or myself.

b). The Club has an observing session scheduled for Saturday night, June 28
at Walnut Point State Park near Oakland. We will be meeting in the parking
lot of Jerry's IGA on Philo Road in Urbana at 7 PM, and car-pooling. Watch
the email list for further updates.

c). The 2004 Calendars are in!

d). Dave Leake is repairing/cleaning the 2 club 8" Dob scopes.

e). Thank you to Observatory Director Mike Rosenberger for his hard work
maintaining and cleaning the dome recently!

f). We will be scheduling a 'work-day' at the Observatory within the next
month or so. Some of the work needing to be done - scraping and painting of
the door and block.

g). The Board is working toward finding a suitable way to store the Club's
Meade SCT scope at the Observatory. Keyholders will be checked out on it's
operation.

h). The mirror for the 16" dob is in Chicagoland. Mike Conron will pick it
up when it is ready.

i). The Board is exploring options for supplying electricity at the
Observatory. It appears that our best option is to purchase a generator. We
are also exploring a method to rotate the dome with an electric motor. Power
would also be available for lightning, power for telescopes, and hopefully
at some point to automate the 16".

j). The Club is planning a 'Mars-a-thon' for the Labor Day weekend. Our usual
Skywatch is scheduled for our regular night of Saturday, August 30. On Friday
the 29th, and Sunday the 31st - we are planning observing sessions at one
or more parks in town. More details when they are finalized.

k). There are some initial discussions of possibly hosting a Star Party in
2004. If you are interested - contact one of the officers.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
