Minutes of the July 10, 2003 Meeting of the CUAS.
The Meeting was called to order by V.P. Phil Wall at 7:00 P.M. There were
21 members present.
a:) July 5 Skywatch. I few members showed up and we had a couple of families
come by to view. The weather was 'iffy' and most everyone packed up and left
somewhat early because of thunderstorms in the area.
b). Thanks to Dave Leake for repairing the 2 club dobsonian scopes!
c). The Meade LX-6 is now stored at the dome. It was set up and used at the
July 5 Skywatch. All keyholders will go through a check out on it's operation.
d). The Walnut Point Observing Session at the end of June was clouded out.
e). Upcoming Observing:
1). Sept. 20 at Allerton Park
2). We are planning for Sept. 27 at Walnut Point - watch for further
information.
f). Subscriptions to Sky and Telescope will be going up. The Club Member
price is now $33. A letter to S&T was available for members to sign if they
wished to let S&T know how they felt about the price increase.
g). The Taste of C-U went well. Thanks to everyone who helped!
h). We have a Day in the Park coming up on July 19 from 9 AM until 4 PM. We
can always use assistance with the booth.
i). We are planning to have additional viewing for Mars.
1). Aug. 27 - possibly at Meadowbrook Park
2). Aug. 30- This is our normal Skywatch night.
3). Possibly Sept. 6.
Further information in the next Newsletter, email, and the next Club
Meeting.
j). The officers have been looking into purchasing a generator for use at
the Observatory. Mike Rosenberger, and Mike Matthews reported on what they
have learned. The Club voted to approve the purchase of a suitable
generator.
k). The Perseids will be Aug. 11 and 12. This is near a full moon - the Club
will not have an organized session.
l). We still have T-shirts and Calendars available for sale.
m). Long time member Ralph Goering died recently. Dave Leake met with the
family, and they donated some books and equipment to the Club.
Mike Conron gave a very interesting presentation on his work making a diagonal
mirror. He also recently picked up the 16" mirror for the new Club truss
scope and everyone got to see it!
The Meeting was adjourned about 8:30 PM.
