The February 12, 2004 meeting of the Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society
was an informal Telescope Tuning and Assembly session, with vice president
Mike Conron presiding at the meeting in the lobby of the planetarium at 7pm.

At least 23 persons attended, and at least seven telescopes and their
owners were present. Due to the help of our members, the new owners left
with a better understanding of how their telescopes work. Most proud new
owners had selected small reflectors, and most had 1.25 inch eyepieces. We
wish them clear skies, and hope what they see in their finder scopes is at
least somewhat similar to what they see in their low-power eyepieces!

Toward the end of the meeting, Bob Lozar
(robert.c.lozar@erdc.usace.army.mil) announced that the club's Dark Sky
Committee's goal is to establish a dark sky preserve, either in or near
Champaign county, by 2006. The Middle Fork Forest preserve and the area
around Sidney and Homer were mentioned as dark sky sites in the county. If
you know of a good dark sky site in the area, please get in touch with Bob
Lozar!

The Meeting was adjourned at about 8:40PM.
