The meeting started at 7:10 with opening announcements by President Mike
Lockwood.

Our Meadowbrook observing session seemed to work well and we probably had about
30 people in attendance and about 10 members. Fog and general moisture was
noticeable, but the Jupiter observations were great with an occultation of one
moon and the shadow of another on Jupiter providing some highlights. The public
observing session the following night was also well attended, perhaps more so.

On August 16th, we have an Allerton observing session scheduled. and on the
19th/20th we have a new moon/members observing session at our dome.

We have a member (sorry I missed the name) willing to try taking on the
newsletter for the time being to see how it goes.

We sent a survey out to see what direction people wanted the club to go in and
the results were tallied. Those submitting a survey could have their name put
in a drawing for a 1 yr subscription to Sky&Telescope magazine. The winner of
the subscription was drawn from a basket and was Dale Hirstein:

1) People in general said they would participate more if they lived closer (gas
is probably a motivating factor).
2) More observing both in town and out of town was highly requested.
3) Newsletter plans were rather diverse and difficult to find trends, but its
likely that there will be a trend towards more electronic media with 5-10 or so
still mailed the old fashioned way.

Prairienet requested donations to help pay for the list serve usage. John Stone
made a motion that the club donate $72 or under as a club (about $1 or $2 per
member). The motion was seconded by Dave Leake. All in attendance were in
support of the motion.

We are planning to try to sell the Criterion with refigured mirror for $350 to
someone who already expressed an interest. The 10" "duct-tape scope" has a
newly refigured mirror estimated at $1000. The plan is to re-house it, possibly
in a truss tube and try to sell it.

Bob Lozar is supposed to coordinate picking up the fork mount and setting
circles stored at the dome.

Phil reports the treasury to have about $2400 with about $100 in petty cash.

John Stone is interested in possibly giving a presentation in October or
November on the results of his dark sky readings he has taken around the area.

The presenter for the evening was President Mike Lockwood who provided a
slideshow presentation on his Star Party Adventures.

The meeting adjourned at about 8:45 PM.
