In Jeff Bryant's absence, I took a few minutes at the October 12 CUAS
meeting at the planetarium.

* It was disappointing that only TWO non-members showed up for the
telescope buyer's event, but thanks to those two and the CUAS members
who attended. Special thanks to Mike Lockwood, Mike Conron, Guy
Hampel, Bob Rubendunst, John Stone, and Dave Leake for presenting.

* After the seminar, Mike Lockwood reported that the mirrors for the
club scopes are back from the coater. The 6-inch f/8 Criterion
reflector (circa 1970's, but now with totally refigured optics) on an
equitorial mount will be for sale for $350. See Mike if you're
interested in seeing it.

* There was more talk about maybe holding some sort of event (star
party?) at the 4H Camp at Allerton. The gentleman who runs the camp
used to work at Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See, home of the Prairie Skies Star
Pary, so he's familiar with an operation like this. Dave Leake
reported that he and Stuart Levy had visited before one of the meadow
viewing sessions and had taken photos. He'll try to bring those to the
November meeting. It might be neat to do some observing both from the
camp and maybe from the Sunsinger statue to check out the skies.
Before anyone goes into a panic, we're not talking about hosting a
"Prairie Skies-like" event . . . .yet. But it could lead to that.

* John Stone just mowed the lawn at the dome (thank you, John). So
we're near the end of the mow list. John will give the November talk
on astrophotography and observing sites.

* If you're read this far, you've reached officer nominations!
Remember you need not be present to be nominated. If there are no
objections, an absentee ballot will appear in the November newsletter
and voting will commence during the November meeting with the new
officers being installed January 1. Anyone nominated can (by the
by-laws) put a statement in the November newsletter. Also, further
nominations can be taken up until the November voting. Here is who was
nominated last night:

President: Mike Lockwood, Dave Leake
Vice-president: Guy Hampel, Mike Matthews'
Secretary: Mike Conron, Mark Prather
Treasurer: Jeff Bryant, Dave Leake
5th Director: John Stone, Mike Lockwood
