Minutes of CUAS Club meeting held on

Thursday January 11th, 2007 7:00PM

Parkland College, Staerkel Planetarium

Club items of business and discussion:

President, Mike Lockwood, started the meeting by thanking the previous
officers for their service to the club and thanking the new officers
for accepting their new duties.

The Christmas party was a success and those attending were also
treated to a view of the aurora that night.

Up and coming events include the Telescope Clinic at our next meeting
on February 8th, 2007. Dave Leake volunteered to put a little publicity
note about it in his weekly newspaper column.

Future speakers will be Bob Holmes in March or May, 2007.
Mike Lockwood will ask Ed Ting and Professor Chu to speak in the near
future.

Club telescopes for sale include the re-figured Criterion 6" scope
for $350. Mike Rosenberger suggested that the scope will be displayed
at the Telescope Clinic on Feb. 8th. One of the 10" spiral wound tube
club scopes is also being re-furbished for sale.

Mike Lockwood presented the idea proposed at the January 10th officers'
meeting about having some "in town" events in addition to the usual
Skywatch events at the dome.

The idea would be to give us a higher exposure level to the general
public and make it more convenient for potential visitors to see what
we do. It was suggested to have sign-up sheets to get commitments from
members 4-6 weeks in advance of the activity. Mike Rosenberger suggested
we pick appropriate events not necessarily tied to Skywatch weekends.

Bob Rubendunst was able to talk to the Forest District people and
they would be happy to host star party events.

Bob Lozar apparently has some old telescope parts at the dome.
He can call Mike Rosenberger about their disposition.

Mike Rosenberger also will put out more "bait" for our little rodent
friends romping in and around the dome.

Phil Wall has volunteered to be the CUAS webmaster.

Program:

Dave Leake put on our annual "What's Coming Up In The Night Sky"
presentation using the Staerkel Planetarium. Thanks Dave!
