Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society Champaign, IL. 61820 Minutes of CUAS Club meeting held on Thursday January 13th 7:00PM Parkland College, Staerkel Planetarium 2500 West Bradley Avenue Champaign , Ill 61820 Notes taken by temporary acting secretary Phil Wall 16 members were in attendence, meeting presided by Dave Leake, President. Dave opened the meeting by thanking outgoing president Guy Hampel (not present) for all of his work as president of CUAS in 2010. Next, he mentioned that a couple of membership renewals were in the CUAS inbox. Also, six 2011 Astronomy Magazine calendars are left as of this meeting. Dave then went over several amendments to the CUAS by-laws to be voted on in the February meeting. He also mentioned the election to be voted on during the February meeting concerning office of club secretary. As of this meeting, only Phil Wall had been nominated. Nominations can still be made at the February meeting. Next, a work day at the CUAS dome, possibly in April, was discussed. He then demonstrated the Night Sky Network website, and, as an example, added Mike Rosenberger as a CUAS member on that site. Willard stated that the club treasury currently has a balance of $3401. Dave invited the membership to do presentations at meetings. We need speakers for 10 meetings. Also discussed was Mike Lockwood sending in mirrors to be recoated April or later. Next month's meeting will be a projector presentation on black holes. Next, public observing in 2011 was discussed. Possible sited include Homer Lake and sites in town on nights with bright planets and a crescent moon. Stuart Levy, also a member of University of Illinois Astronomical Society, mentioned an offer of money that had been made to that clube for a large Dobsonian telescope. We discussed allowing that club to put up a shed near our dome for that scope. Jeff Bryant then made a presentation about the new Wolfram astronomy course assistant.
